YouTube and your AI Content
YouTube requires creators to disclose meaningfully altered or synthetically generated content that appears realistic, such as making real people seem to say/do things they didn’t, altering real events/places, or creating realistic fake scenes.
Disclosure is done via the “altered content” setting in YouTube Studio, which adds a label to the video’s description. Automatic disclosure applies to YouTube’s AI tools like Dream Track or Dream Screen, but manual disclosure is needed for other AI tools.
Disclosure Not Required:
- Unrealistic content (e.g., fantastical scenes, green screen effects like floating in space).
- Minor edits (e.g., beauty filters, color adjustments, background blur, special effects, audio enhancements).
- Production aids (e.g., AI-generated scripts, captions, thumbnails, video sharpening, voice cloning for dubs, idea generation).
Disclosure Required:
- Realistic alterations (e.g., face swaps, faking events, simulating audio of real people, depicting realistic fake scenes like missile strikes on real cities).
This ensures viewers are informed about the authenticity of content while encouraging responsible use of editing and AI tools.
